The HeartMath Solution Quotes Showing 1-30 of 40
“When we’re engaged with our hearts, the mind slows down and our thoughts become more rational and focused”
“HeartMath research confirms our intuitive understanding of the heart with solid science and explains how the electromagnetic field radiating from the heart can affect those around us.”
“Positive thoughts and feelings add energy to our system. An optimistic perspective, a feeling of appreciation, or a gesture of kindness, for example, are energy assets. Negative thoughts and feelings deplete our store of energy. Anger, jealousy, and judgmental thoughts, for example, are energy deficits.”
“You achieve the best results from FREEZE-FRAME when you focus in the area of the heart; take a few slow, full breaths; sincerely feel emotions such as love, care, or appreciation; and then forget about breathing while maintaining that feeling state.”
“Forgiveness is simply the most energy-efficient option you face, and the only one that will foster health and well-being. It frees you from the toxic, debilitating drain of holding a grudge. Don’t let villains live rent-free in your head. If they’ve hurt you in the past, why let them keep hurting you year after year in your mind? It’s not worth it—”
“A primary goal of the HeartMath Solution is to increase coherence, bringing us to a state of optimal efficiency. Stress creates incoherence in our system, so increasing coherence necessitates reducing stress.”
“Whatever techniques you practice, realize that the message of the heart becomes clearer when the mind is quiet. And in order to truly quiet the mind, we need to bring the head into alignment with the heart.”

“Activating heart intelligence + managing the mind + managing the emotions = energy efficiency, increased coherence, enhanced awareness, and greater productivity”
“The goal of HeartMath is to help you learn to generate emotional and mental coherence deliberately—on demand—so that ultimately you spend more of your day at this optimal, regenerative level of energy efficiency.”
“Core heart feelings—including appreciation, care, compassion, nonjudgment, and forgiveness—are very potent.”
“A benchmark of new emotional management lies in realizing that our past can no longer be blamed for our actions in the present.”
“Scientists have repeatedly confirmed that our emotional reactions show up in brain activity before we even have time to think. We evaluate everything emotionally as we perceive it. We think about it afterwards”
“that pattern-making ability, essential though it is, has drawbacks. The head can easily get locked into set patterns. Instead of seeing things from a fresh perspective, it can stubbornly presume that it “knows what it knows” about people, places, issues, and ourselves, blocking us from seeing and accepting new possibilities.”
“At the survival level, maintaining a sense of order and stability is essential. But when we’re trying to find new solutions to problems, or trying to develop new attitudes, behaviors, or perspectives, it can be a liability.”
“It takes a new intelligence to understand and manage your emotions. By getting your head and heart in coherence and allowing heart intelligence to work for you, you have a realistic chance of transforming your anger in a healthy way.”
“We’ve all experienced managing our emotions to some degree. But what we usually practice is a kind of “fair-weather management.” When the sun is shining and the sky is clear, we can smile and feel emotionally balanced. But when a storm appears—especially one that wasn’t forecast—our emotions are thrown into turmoil. We’re basically at the mercy of our inner environment.”
“The HeartMath Solution allows us to recognize stress as an untransformed opportunity for empowerment”
“When your mind is unmanaged, it tends to focus on what’s not right. And when you’re caught up in your problems, focusing on what’s not right, you tend to lose sight of areas in your life that are good. The result is that you end up feeling sorry for yourself. This kind of victimized thinking blocks off heart intelligence and creates perceptions that are narrow and confused.”
“We’ve noticed in our own lives that too much sympathy isn’t helpful. It’s draining—and to no useful end. Sympathy kicks in when our heads overidentify with someone in need and we start projecting our own concerns. Our heads persuade us that in order to be a good friend, we have to “get into” that person’s pain, identify with it and make it our own. But that means engulfing ourselves in the same draining emotions our friend is suffering from. By the time we project our own concerns about the problem on top of our friend’s concerns, we’re sinking into an emotional bog that’s not helpful to anyone. That’s why an offer of sympathy so often leads to two people crying in their beers instead of one—with no solution in sight.”
“New research has found that what creates more stress for people than any other stressor is having to shift concepts, intention, and focus to many different tasks, many times an hour. [1] Unlike thirty”
“Compassion, on the other hand, is regenerative, and it offers intuitive understanding and potential solutions. It lets us feel what another is feeling while holding on to our own authenticity. We can embrace our suffering friend without falling into over-responsibility and despair. Caring about the problems and concerns of those we love is a natural part of friendship. We just need to make sure that our feelings of care lead to higher-heart compassion rather than lower-heart sympathy.”
“The HeartMath Solution is a comprehensive system that provides information, tools, and techniques to access your heart intelligence.”
“We now have scientific evidence that the heart sends us emotional and intuitive signals”
“Contrary to the earlier belief that a steady heart rate was an indicator of health, we now know that a loss of the naturally occurring variability in heart rate is actually a sign of disease and a strong predictor of future health problems. [23] Because heart rate variability declines as we get older, it’s one way to measure our physiological aging. [24] In essence, HRV is a measure of the flexibility of our heart and nervous system, and as such reflects our health and fitness.”
“As Albert Einstein said years ago, “The significant problems we face today cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” Developing the capacity to deal with the challenge of living in a stressful, ever-changing world is now more important than ever.”
“Heart intelligence is the intelligent flow of awareness and insight that we experience once the mind and emotions are brought into balance and coherence through a self-initiated process. This form of intelligence is experienced as direct, intuitive knowing that manifests in thoughts and emotions that are beneficial for ourselves and others.”
“Mayer and Salovey’s definition of emotional intelligence includes five domains: knowing one’s emotions; managing one’s emotions; motivating oneself; recognizing emotions in others; and handling relationships.”
“Remember, the mind likes to assume it “knows what it knows,” but often its perceptions are just not accurate. Yet strong judgments are made all the time—every day, every hour—based on limited information.”
“intelligence and intuition are heightened when we learn to listen more deeply to our own heart. It’s through learning how to decipher the messages we receive from our heart that we gain the keen perception needed to effectively manage our emotions in the midst of life’s situations and challenges.”
“Without the guiding influence of the heart, we easily fall prey to reactive emotions such as insecurity, anger, fear, and blame, as well as other energy-draining reactions and behaviors.”

Did you know that the fetus heart is beating long before the brain has begun to develop? This book reveals some of the science behind the physiological benefits of connecting to the heart's intelligence. Using the analogy of how the most powerful pendulum in a room of pendulums will eventually persuade all the others to mimic it's rhythm, the authors offer a very simple and powerful technique to connect with the heart's brain, thereby increasing 'coherence' in all bodily systems. The result? Pre..more

As a brain-oriented person, I was totally impressed with this book on how to access the powers of the heart. All men should read this, and women should read and recommend to their guys. Great insights. Amazing yet credible scientific basis for how strong the heart really is in guiding our lives, and how we can access that power. Medium advanced read. Highly recommended to all.

I came across this book when I started attending Unity Church of Walnut Creek this year. Our pastor is Reverend David McArthur, who to our good fortune, is a leader in promoting HeartMath to religious organizations of all kinds across the country. The church holds many HeartMath workshops that support the book, and teach the techniques used, to build stronger intuitive heart intelligence and its coherent power to manage the mind, thoughts and emotions.

I attended a workshop on Heartmath around the time the book was published in 1999. Although the technique and the book are a little touchy-feely for me - I chose the workshop specifically because it was outside my usual interests - I remember getting enough out of it to search out the book recently when I was having trouble sleeping.
I started using the Heart Lock-In again and it did help with my sleeping problems. I don't think there is anything particularly new in the book, but anything that he

My doctor recommended this book. It's a very interesting spin on meditation techniques. Rather that meditating from your head, you focus on the heart. The book contains current research on the heart--that it has its own set of nerves that respond separately than the brain, etc. The research data is interesting and the exercises are enlightening and easy to try. I'll update again as I continue to practice the program and will let you know if it makes a difference in my life.

Not much actionable here. Mostly things that fall into the mindfullness meditation camp, which is useful but I don't need another book for that.
there's some great research in here re: the 'heart brain', which i find fascinating.
more importantly, there's some excellent tech for accessing specific emotional resource states that have the most beneficial physiological effects. sadly, all of this tech is pretty much the same thing in various iterations and context.
i do have to note that i've experienced some pretty intense benefits of using this stuff over the last couple of weeks, and i'm grateful for that. definitely planning to continue

Definitely this book changes your life and perspective. From the moment you immerse yourself in the first pages, there is an endless amount of information that makes you reflect on how your heart works and reacts at certain events and how you can at least 'try' to align this organ with your brain and the rest of your body, becoming loving and compassionate intuition the center for decision making.

The heart influences far more than we realise, both through emotional states as well as electromagnetic field and other physiological impacts. By learning to leverage the interconnection between heart and body we can have greater control of our emotional experience, which has far-reaching possibilities for relationships and interactions at home, at work, and everywhere in between.
A bit dated booked and hence the research too. I am sure there is more recent research on the subject that I haven’t yet read so consider the rating with that in mind. The techniques nevertheless are harmless and I have started trying informally. I hope I can derive full potential of the techniques mentioned in the book.

I actually read it twice. I'm ahead of schedule reading this for my Heartmath Coach certification course that begins in May and it's gotten me more excited for the course. This book gave me great insight as to the vast applications of the techniques and how this can truly change the world!

Quality info/message, not too well written..very sales pitchy and unnecessarily long
This book is a great manual on how to get in touch with what is really important to you and how to navigate life's difficult moments.

I am very impressed with HeartMath. Although the review below makes it sound complicated, it is really extremely easy. In fact, it’s a lot more straightforward and not as woo woo as a lot of meditation type practices. What really makes it great is the research that backs up their claims. Another plus is that Dr. David Servan-Schreiber recommends it in his book The Instinct to Heal and Dr. Christiane Northrup recommends it in her book Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom.--hr

I read 16 pages. I expected some science about the heart/brain connection and it may actually be in the book somewhere. I did not find anything of substance in those 16 pages except for the probably truth that the heart does beat without the need of the brain. It was pointed out that a heart can be transplanted and started and neural connections to the recipients brain are not made.
There were a couple of things that I felt were inaccurate that I just let slide and cannot recall, but on page 16

The HeartMath Solution by Doc Lew Childre and Howard Martin offers a different approach on Mindfulness. Perhaps Heartfulness would be a better word for the approach the authors recommend. The HeartMath Solution describes recent research on the heart, maintaining that it has its own neurons that respond separately to the brain. The research data contained in the book are fascinating and the many helpful exercises are enlightening and yet simple. In short, the book describes offers a scientific ba..more

Enlightening!
I found this book to be very informative and thought provoking, I learned a lot about the power that lies within us to make our lives better. I have started practicing some of the techniques outlined in the book and already feel a difference. I know it takes time but the information in this book will shift your thoughts and help you realize that you can change your life. by changing your thoughts.

I added this to cognitive neurology, even though it doesn't technically belong there. But it does have so much to do with maintaining a positive outlook, and maximizing cognitive resources that I included it. I love the practice--it is exceptionally useful when practice regularly. I'd recommend it to any one wishing more insight, self-control, and tranquility.

Continuing on with my study of the heart. This was an interesting book, lots of documented research and lots of things to think about. Was in the final chapters of this book during conference, was amazed at how many times they referenced specific feeling, thoughts, emotions of the heart - especially Elder Bednar. Apparently, the heart is responsible for far more then just beating.
I could not read this book. Perhaps it is too scientific for my taste, for some reason I wasn't captivated or enjoying the flow of the words in the book. However, I skipped through all the research related information and went straight to the exercises. Shall try them in a couple of weeks and see what happens.

I've had this book for awhile but am now reading it in-depth. Explores the science behind the heart's intelligence and practical tools to use the heart as a navigational tool through life. I think as a culture we really need to reorient to the heart's intelligence, so I'm excited about this book.
Wow, how did it take me so long to find this excellent book, which satisfied my analytical mind and my passionate, mystically-inclined, heart. I was so excited by this book I did a video review.
The freeze frame technique I find immensely valuable for relaxation. I can actually measure the difference before and after using a heart rate variability monitor. But the rest of this book is unnecessary.
Engaging the heart and mind. Good but long winded.
